ICONS OF THE PAST: JOURNAL

There's a certain nostalgic magic to a well-designed hood ornament or a perfectly-placed automobile badge. They still have 'em today, sure. But they lack the romance of the past: the elaborate scripts, the names that covered entire trunks, the dramatized objects carved into miniature sculptures that announced your arrival. What was it about a simple blocky number that told you so much about car and driver?
